         CHAPTER-1:1:18 (NEW IMMIGRANTS) -DAY-18

Eli and Ami Jankowsky were both up a little later than usual on that third fall morning in 1843 after having lived through their first summer as pioneer settlers in Winfield. They'd both arrived in Portland on a sailing ship from Holland where they'd gotten on board the ship sailing to North America.
Most of the other passengers on their ship were all heading over as new immigrants to search for better lives in a new homeland. The Jankowskys were no different than the others on the ship with them on their journey over.
They both ended up heading over to Garden House for a while after Eli paid the bills left behind by the letter carrier. It was still very cold and frosty outside though it was getting later in the day so they'd have to go dumpster diving and start to practice writing on their computers instead of harvesting produce from the garden.
It started to look like it was going to remain cold all day and it was only the third day of fall.Eli and Ami were used to it being cold earlier in the year since they came from a cold country.
It was a busy day for both Eli and Ami though they never were going to be able to get any garden produce harvested because it was too cold and everything was dormant. They decided that they needed to use the washrooms and get cleaned up after doing so much dumpster diving to try to find things of value they could sell for cash. They ended up eating after cleaning up and started to practice writing on their computers after eating in hopes of being able to eventually use that skill to earn some money in the winter when they couldn't garden.
It was starting to get dark outside while Eli and Ami were still practicing writing on their computers at Garden House though they could've done that at home.It was already 6PM and they finally had to stop writing practice to get dinner and get to the store to apply for their part-time jobs because fall had arrived and would soon be followed by winter. It was known to be the season where blizzards and severe snowstorms could suddenly strike the town and leave them buried under snowdrifts to the rooftop of their single storey houses.
They did end up getting the jobs at the grocery store and they got home by 7:30 and were so tired they had to get into bed soon after getting home.It ended up getting so cold there was another hard frost outside for the night.
